"Rapid Population Decline or Bust" describes a problem we don't see and behaviors to solve it we are not motivated to take.

Many think rapid population decline means killing people. However, It could mean having babies slower than people die of natural causes. For example, rapid population decline results from decisions to parent none or at most one child.

These choices run counter to our genetic propensities and our culture. Without a better view of a black future few are willing to consider them.

In the book I suggest civilization collapse will reduce our children to lives similar to Somalia war orphans -- no parents, no homes, no food, and carrying guns in militias to keep their bellies half full.

I suggest this dark age is not temporary While most of us think Somalia life will recover and even develop so the orphans will eventually live wonderful lives, global civilization collapse will not recover. Humans, during the death throes of collapse will deplete resources and degrade the environment. There will not be enough left to rebuild it. Our children will be stuck in their reduced existence.

This pessimism seems exaggerated until one follows logical steps to its occurrence. After a person traverses the logic he or she will be motivated to follow an analysis that shows why rapid population decline, each parent having none or only one child is powerful enough to reverse trends toward tragedy.

If I succeed in changing each reader then we have a kernel of believers that think rapid population decline is the best path forward.

It is not my goal to get the reader to change his or her procreative behavior. Instead my goal is to get the reader to think all members of the human experiment have to take procreative behavior that implement rapid population decline.

When this kernel of believers expands into a majority of the constituents of a nation, then, using Garret Hardin's, "mutual coercion mutually agreed upon," each of these nations can enact policies to implement rapid population decline.

Even, having just a few nations implement rapid population decline will not reverse tragic trends in the human experiment. These nations, will have to band together into a commonwealth creating a border around themselves and their mutually held commons. No human migration, no commerce, will cross it.

Nations on opposite sides of the broader will become the antithesis of one another. While the quality of life within the commonwealth is ever brightening for its constituents, the quality of life for the non commonwealth nations will ever darken.

The next part of the human experiment's path into the light, is pretty dark. Scarcity and resulting anarchy will crush non commonwealth nations and they will join Somalia as failed states. Without arm's (aid) fossil energy, and diminished technology their conflicts will soon be reduced to swords and rocks.

Each non-commonwealth nation can join the commonwealth if they implement rapid population decline policies.

In one book it would be impossible to illuminate all the actual subplots in a transition this large. The book instead contains a series of essays which describe, to a lay reader, a partial view of the problem, the solution, and its implementation.

The book achieves my goal if the reader believes there is a problem that will crash down on our children which is a lot bigger than unemployment, failing education, lack of medical care, lose of public services, disintegrating infrastructure, and escalating security to protect against terror.

My goal will be accomplished if the reader believes rapid population decline is powerful enough to address the larger problem of civilization collapse and most other touted behaviors, successfully implemented, like living smaller, or stopping population growth, or equitable redistribution, and equal justice for all, are not.

My goal will be accomplished if the reader becomes a member of a "constituency that believes rapid population decline is the core of a viable human experiment. It achieves my goal if that reader will recruit new members to this belief.
